The Tigers started the season off right by winning four-straight games to claim the tournament title at the Memphis Invitational. Memphis defeated Alabama A&M, SEMO, UALR and Georgia State en route to its first championship of the preseason. Altrese Hawkins was named the tournament's MVP, while Marija Jovanovic and Aleksandra Petronijevic were each named to the All-Tournament Team. Hawkins also earned C-USA's Offensive Player of the Week award for her performance, while Hajnalka Molnar was named C-USA's Setter of the Week.
