May / June 2015 40 From Missouri To AMELIA ISLAND By Bob Wollenman SPECIAL INTEREST March in the Midwest of- ten times is wrought with challenges. Mother nature continues to remind us that we have no control when it comes to being comfort- able. Our Porsches appear infrequently (timidly) for our breakfast events and possibly a run to the Kansas City Automotive Museum or the like. Move east to the Atlantic Coast each March and you find one of the most spec- tacular automotive events in the world. The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is the brainchild of Bill Warner. Mr. Warner is an extremely humble person that knows automobiles. His knowledge with assis- tance of many volunteers and automotive enthusiasts worldwide, allows him to assemble our favorite auto- motive art forms year after year. My wife Connie and I have had the great opportu- nity to attend this spectacu- lar event for the past several years. Often times the first year attending an event is the best. This event con- tinues to better itself each year. You know that your have arrived when you start see- ing automotive transports lined up along the high- ways. As you pass the transports, the visual im- pact is amazing. Race cars, prototype cars, antique cars are being unloaded and then comes the sounds. Engines of every manufacturer are being ignited and the voices theses cars have speak vol- umes to the designers and engineers that brought them from concept to life. Each Friday and Saturday immediately preceding the main event you find semi- nars that are informative Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance 2015
