I
had a friend in Woodside who had a collection of 50 or so
classic cars. When visiting, I always oohed and aahed and said
how much I wanted an old Porsche. One day in 1980, he called
saying he had a couple for me to look at. It was a work day, but I dropped
everything and went.
I fell in love with this car right away. It had been stolen and partially
stripped, but it had the original engine. One piston had been replaced with
one from a 912 motor for some reason. I didn't have a boatload of money
to spend, but with the help of a mechanic friend, I got it up to original and
running again in about a year. This is certainly no Concours car. I like to call
it a '20-footer' because it looks great from that distance.
Now the car has 178,000 miles on it and I drive it mostly around
town and on car tours with friends and family. My dog Luke loves riding
around in it.
I get offers for it all the time, but I love it and probably won't sell it any
time soon. It just sounds sooo good."
