Share your success stories and news updates with the university community by contacting chsbs@cmich.edu On the cover Graduate and undergraduate students assist in treating children and adolescents at the new Central Autism Assessment and Treatment Clinic. The College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences strives to help our students better understand people and communities. We embrace opportunities for our students and faculty to apply their research and talents to improve our communities, both locally and globally. Through a partnership with the College of Medicine and the College of Education and Human Services, our psychology department recently opened the Central Autism Assessment and Treatment Clinic to provide diagnosis and treatment to children and adolescents in central and northern Michigan. The new center is one of only eight of its kind in Michigan, and one of only two that train professionals in diagnosis and treatment. Our Center for Driving Evaluation, Education and Research is partnering with Cattolica University in Milan, Italy, to assess cognitive fitness to drive and conduct research on attention and driving in older adults. Our DEER Center faculty recently developed a portable driving simulation tool that provides rehabilitation services to patients in their homes. Collaborative educational efforts improve communities We've also partnered with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe to develop a mentoring program that pairs Native American college students enrolled at CMU with 5th through 8th grade Saginaw Chippewa Indian students. Our faculty members continue to offer meaningful learning opportunities to our students through interactive labs and research projects and by developing innovative new courses while preserving the core values of a liberal arts education. I hope that you will take the time to read more about each of these projects and many other important endeavors taking place within the College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences.
