The collection includes local- ly sewn slacks, skirts and tops, along with one-of-a-kind art-influenced jackets. Engelman and local designer Domini Anne, who is expanding her eco- friendly clothing line, will showcase their new designs during an August 7 fashion show at Hedi's Shoes in downtown Carmel. Their "Fashion on the Avenue" event takes place from 5 to 9pm, and it's the first in a monthly series spotlighting new pieces. Consumers can order Engelman's attire at these events or through a website launching in conjunction with the line. She's working with several area seamstresses who will help craft the clothing, and pieces will be available in a range of sizes. While well- designed garments in smaller sizes aren't hard to find, Engelman explains, women who wear a size 16 or 18 sometimes struggle to find high-quali- ty, well-tailored options. "I know there is a woman out there who wants this, because I've been dressing them," she says. "My clothes are for those who like good, easy-to- care-for basics that they can wear casually or dress up." When working with clients on alterations and custom pieces, Engelman Engelman started sewing as a child, after struggling to find clothes that fit. "Realizing that I could take a piece of fabric and make something wonderful, that made me happy. It set up my life for doing this," she says.
