ples of programs that sought to specifically address the subject of creativity," comments Takigawa. "The rest of the time the conversation has been dominated by photographic technical craft. Although technical learning and mastery continue to be part of our program, we felt it was time to create a unique space to facilitate a dialogue about creativity and enable each indi- vidual artist to find his or her own unique voice." Through its interactive instructional ap- proach, the PIE Labs seeks to emphasize the motivation behind art and creativity, and to encourage artists to find the meaning and cre- ative tools to express their individual voices. "The greatest challenge in any art form remains how best to best express one's own distinctive voice," affirms Takigawa. "What we want to accomplish with PIE Labs is to motivate and inform artists to do work that inspires them and surpasses what they thought was possible."
