A
few months ago we finished up installing
the pistons and front assembly onto the
2.5L block. Essentially at this point we
have a short block assembled that needs
heads to finish up. With the chain rails
installed, you can install the head gaskets.
They are side specific, and I like to coat
them slightly with copper head gasket spray
as seen in the pictures.
After a few minutes you can drop your
cylinder head onto the block, and install all
the bolts, making sure to use new hardware
and torque to the correct spec.
Once your head is properly torqued, install
the cam follower bore plate.
If you are doing a full rebuild, I recommend
installing all new cam followers at the
same time. If you replace cam followers,
you must replace the bore plate that they
ride in as well. If you are certain your cam
followers are good and are going to reuse
them, make sure to pump some clean oil
into the hydraulic followers and get the
stagnate oil out. I use a mighty vac to do
so; the vacuum will suck fresh oil into the
follower, and pull the old oil out.
Here you can see bubbles being pulled out
of the holes in the followers.
