Tail lights. The reason to remove the tail
light is to clean out the wax and dirt buildup
around the edge of the light housing and wax
the bumper under the housing. To remove
the tail light: 1. Remove the carpeting
behind the light. 2. Locate the four 5/16 nuts
on the back of the tail light assembly (They
will be close to the four outer corners of the
assembly)and remove them. 3. The tail light
assembly can now be pulled out from the
outside of the car. No need to unplug it, just
pull it out and you will have enough wire on
the harness to put it in the trunk.
Now that the tail light is out: 1. Polish and
wax the flat area of the bumper that was
under the taillight. 2. Wax the edge of the
light housing to remove any caked on wax
or dirt. Polish edge and bumper until area
looks new. (see picture 10)
To reinstall the tail light assembly: 1. Slide
assembly back into the opening while lining
up the four bolts into their holes. 2. Move
wiring harness back above the housing. 3.
Finger tight the four nuts so that the assembly
can still move . Line up the tail light so that
all the gaps are equal. While holding the tail
light assembly straight, tighten all four nuts
down with 5/16 wrench.
That will end The Cleaning Corner for
this issue; next issue I will cover Extreme
Detailing part 3.
