THE TIGERS ACCEPT THE 2002 NIT TROPHY FROM NIT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JACK POWERS FOLLOWING THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WIN OVER SOUTH CAROLINA. The 2001-02 Tigers celebrated the program´s first postseason championship with its National Invitation Tournament title game victory over South Carolina. Led by NIT MVP Dajuan Wagner, Memphis posted a 27-9 record. The NIT championship run laid the groundwork for the next two seasons when the Tigers made back-to-back NCAA appearances in 2003 and 2004. DAJUAN WAGNER HOISTS THE MVP TROPHY AFTER THE TIGERS CAPTURED THE 2002 OWENS CORNING NIT CHAMPIONSHIP IN NEW YORK´S MADISON SQUARE GARDEN.
