November / December 2015 10 up, dressed and out the door on time. Our flight was a blur. I was too focused on what was turning out to be a Top Gear challenge. (If you watch the TV show, you get my meaning.) We landed and called Tony, still not knowing how far his car was from the airport. In a thick accent "Oh, you landed? I'll head your way. Be there in 10." Luckily his Porsche was only a few minutes away. Maybe time was back on our side. After a quick walk around the Boxster S and Laguna Seca's address plugged into the GPS, we were off. Traffic was heavy, but we were able to make the trip 1:20 trip in exactly 1 hour, with only being honked at twice and one finger wave. We crested the hill entering Laguna Raceway at 12:20. Minutes to spare! I could see down to my right the long line of Porsches already lined up for the parade lap. WAIT, were we about to miss it? I snapped back to reality when the gal tapped on the window saying "tickets, please". My first words were "We are supposed to be down there on the parade lap". "You're too late, honey", came her sorrowful words. But Fred exclaimed, "We are not done yet!" from the passenger seat as we sped away (5 mph in the parking lot was KILLING ME!). Waving, pointing and begging got us to the parade lap. We were the last car in line. WE DID IT! (Insert Ode to Joy music!) "Waivers, please" came a friendly voice. "Can't let you on the track without your wrist bands and waivers signed." "What? Where!?!" Fred and I politely yelled back. We were directed to back up, get out of line, and go to the PCA tent about ½ mile away. We sped off (5 mph in the parking lot was REALLY KILLING ME NOW!) My only saving grace? I knew where we were going in this maze of Porsches. We drove over a "pedestrian only" bridge to the Cayman Island, waving one person out of the way. In front of us were a half dozen 918s strategically parked. (No, that is not a typo, count'em! - six 918 Spyders.) And now here we Rennsport V is only a few yards away, but would we make it on time?
