4 4 Easy Ways to Register: See Page 5 For complete details and updates: ACE.AAPG.org INVITATION FROM THE GENERAL CHAIR On behalf of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the host organization the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) and the organizing committee I am excited to invite you to attend the AAPG 2016 Annual Convention and Exhibition (ACE) — Redefining Reservoir, 19-22 June in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This year the Convention has received a record number of abstract submissions and there will also be a record number of presentations. This reflects the growing appeal of the ACE and the international recognition that it is the premier geological conference of the year. There will be a diverse program that is structured for an integrated cross-disciplined approach to solving technical problems. There will be almost 900 technical and poster presentations covering 11 themes. Attached to this rich technical experience is a dynamic trade show where the latest technology will be displayed including new techniques for inspecting and analyzing core, new approaches to petrophysics, the latest in seismic interpretations and the cross-discipline integration with geology and engineering. ACE 2016 will simply deliver an unparalleled technical experience. In a time of limited budget and getting the most for the training dollar, ACE will be one of the most effective events of the year. The geoscientist who invests in their career in the slow portion of the business cycle is like the professional athlete who trains in the off-season. When the new cycle approaches they will be ready to take advantage of the new opportunities. ACE will stimulate your creative side, it will challenge your thinking and it will expand your horizons. Calgary is known as the Stampede City and lies at the gateway to the Canadian Rocky Mountains along the banks of the Bow River. The citizens of the city are outdoor people who run to the mountains when the chance arises. ACE 2016 will give you that chance with a slate of Field Trips and Short Courses that will allow you to see great outcrops, stunning scenery and how to apply what we observe in nature to the sub-surface. Alberta is more than just petroleum and mountains. The city of Calgary is a young, fast growing, dynamic city that is an important economic driver to the rest of the country. It is a vibrant city with an active night-life, beautiful accessible trails along the Bow River, known to most fly-fishermen as a pre-eminent trout stream. These characteristics of the city make it a welcoming place. This also makes the conference a major networking event. There will be ample time to meet old friends, renew acquaintances and make new contacts that will last throughout your career. I hope you are able to join us in Calgary this June. It will be a stimulating time, a time to rediscover many things that make geology exciting and a time to renew the passion for the science that we all share. I look forward to seeing you in Calgary and at the AAPG ACE 2016. Paul MacKay General Chair, AAPG 2016 Annual Convention & Exhibition
