To better serve both first-time and repeat guests, Miraval recently updated its fitness cen- ter, added a private Pilates studio and revamped its juice bar and wine lounge. In preparation for its 20th anniversary last November, the proper- ty also unveiled renovations to most of its 116 rooms, suites and villas. The low-slung stucco casitas are clustered around fountains, trees and cactus gardens, with private outdoor patios and plenty of thoughtful amenities. The newly refreshed accommodations incorporate earthy tones and warm textures, with select suites offering outdoor showers, fireplaces and glass walls that connect interiors to the surrounding desert landscape. Through guided Sonoran Desert hikes on property and in surrounding public lands, guests learn about the area's native residents and natu- ral history. Trails wind through rare saguaro cac- tus stands and over rolling hills where the desert spoon, cholla and prickly pear cactus bloom bright in the spring. Private and group trail riders can also travel the tranquil valley on horseback. Equine experiences rank among Miraval's most well-known activities, from two-hour workshops to four-day immersions that help individuals challenge false beliefs and build self- awareness. "It's Not About the Horse," a pro- gram developed by author and therapist Wyatt Webb, coaches participants to explore and address self-doubt, communicate with intent and act with clarity.
