Men's Journal turned the spotlight on Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill after the Monterey brewery took home a coveted gold medal at this year's Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Head brewer J.C. Hill and his team earned the gold for the Mai Tai P.A., a medium-bodied, Mosaic-hopped pale ale that incorporates passion fruit, guava and lychee fla- vors. The beer won the international-style pale ale category, one of 92 categories that drew nearly 6,650 entries from more than 1,550 breweries participating in this year's competi- tion. In an article released after the 2015 event, the publication included the Mai Tai P.A. on a list of 20 up-and-coming GABF winners to try. In November, Travel + Leisure included Carmel-by-the-Sea on its list of America's 10 best towns for the holidays. The community came in number nine, thanks to its crashing waves, local wines and community tree-lighting ceremony, along with the annual Inns of Distinction Tour. La Bicyclette, Flying Fish Grill and the Cypress Inn were among several local businesses mentioned in the article.
