March / April 2016 36 Once the track was cleared, we headed over to the PCA Corral to see what the lo- cal members brought in for the weekend. It was great to meet and talk Porsche with fellow PCA members from several regions on the east coast. As with most events, the locals are in the know on where to watch the race and get the most out of the ex- perience. The best tip of the weekend was to be in the stands for the start of the 24, then hike back to the infield for the rest of the action. Saturday morning had fi- nally arrived, and the big Rolex sign was ready to start the countdown. After a brief and chaotic moment on the fan walk, we took our places in the stands for a continu- ous 24 hours of racing ac- tion. The field of 54 fired their engines and the race began. Now the real fan adventure of an endurance race began. We hightailed it to every corner on the track, taking in sights that can only be expe- rienced in person. We even found a way to see the bus stop, although short lived by a very polite security guard. As the sun set on the track, the fan party started to gain momentum in the camp- ground. Our group joined the folks at Grassroots Mo- torsports in their tent for a much needed catered meal. As much as they tried, we managed to leave the tent without buying a prototype Mazda racer. Fireworks over the Ferris wheel capped the night for us; it was time for a break. Sunday brought climax and closure on a weekend of amazing sights and sounds. In the Prototype class, the Patron team got a much- deserved victory, with the Wayne Taylor Corvette com- ing in a close 2nd.
