March / April 2016 28 I t was a beautiful Sunday morning in early November. I was on my way for a tennis match at 9:30, so I left my house around 9:15. I took a right on 123rd off of Mission in order to get to State Line Rd. Speed limit on 123rd is 30 mph. After I crested the first little hill, I hap- pened to look in my rear view mirror and see a car approaching at a rapid clip. I continued to monitor the situation and realized that the car is closing very quickly and it doesn't ap- pear that they are going to stop. Luckily there was no one coming in the other lane. Right before impact I swing into the other lane and speed off reaching about 60 mph. Since I have now put dis- tance between myself and the other car, I go back into the correct lane and slow down. I am stunned when the vehicle bears down on me once again. I now realize that this is no accident and that this person is intent on ramming me. This next time, I pulled a slightly different move as I waited until the last minute, pulled into the other lane and let him speed by. I got a good look at him as I pulled in behind him and took note of the type of car, license plate number and a Sum - mit Racing bumper sticker on the right hand side of the bumper. He pulled into the school parking lot and then turned around and went the other way. I called the Leawood Police Department and they sent an officer to take my story. She said that from my description, she had a pretty good idea who the guy was; he has been in quite a bit of trouble over the last two decades. It turns out that I was just one letter off on the license plate, but they wanted me to pick him out of a line up. I had no problem iden - tifying him and I was asked if I wanted to press charges. I want this guy off the streets, so of course I pressed charg- es. He imme- diately started searching for me on social media, but it never went any further than that as I think he realized that he was digging a deeper hole for himself. I wasn't certain how things would go when there are no witnesses, but was told that it was my word against his. Case was tried in municipal court and the city prosecutor and I prevailed. The judge found him guilty of reckless operation and speeding and ordered him to pay a fine of $500 and serve 5 days in jail with another 55 that would kick in if he got anything other than a parking ticket for SPECIAL INTEREST By Jeff Tudas Road Rage Against Porsches ANGER MANAGEMENT
