18 SMOKESHOP February 2016 Industry NEWS Italian Cigar Maker Toscano Names Miami Cigar Exclusive U.S. Distributor miami—Toscano Cigars has reached an agreement establish- ing Miami Cigar & Company as the exclusive distributor of its cigars in the United States. The arrangement became effec- tive January 1. MST's Pierfrancesco Saccotelli explained to Smokeshop Magazine that after testing the U.S. market with Multiverse Commerce LLC, the Italian producer decided to enlarge distribution of Toscano in the U.S. through a bigger distributor. Toscano Cigars were displayed at Miami Cigar & Company's 2015 IPCPR trade show booth last summer to gauge interest in expanded distribution. Going forward, Multiverse will be a client of Miami Cigar. Based in Tuscany, Italy, Manifatture Sigaro Toscano (MST) has been producing high quality cigars from fermented, fire- cured Kentucky tobacco for 200 years. The unique flavors of the broad range of Toscano brands have made them easily the most dominant cigar brand in Italy. The uniquely shaped cigars are known for their intense strength, aromas, and flavors of wood, roasting, peat, leather, and stable. Because of the unique fermenting process, the Toscano cigars do not need humidification; can be stored at room temperature for years, without losing quality. Miami Cigar & Co. will distribute a wide variety of Toscano brands, both classic and the flavored varieties, including Classico, Antico, 1492, and Toscanello, as well as the flavored Toscanello Aroma Café, Toscanello Aroma Vaniglia, and the Toscanello Aroma Grappa. Most Toscano cigars measure between 5.9 to 6.3 inches in length. Each Toscano box holds 50 sticks which would be traditionally cut in half, to make 100 cigars, and range in price from $135 to $200 suggested retail. "We take pride in distributing a variety of different products, and Toscano Cigars offers a change of pace for smokers who may be looking for something different," said Jason Wood, vice pres- ident of Miami Cigar & Company. "Toscano is a lifestyle brand that offers unique flavors, sizes, and smoking experience." Toscano Cigars Buys 80% Stake in Pennsylvania-based Avanti Cigar dunmore, pa.—In a related U.S. development, Manufatture Sigaro Toscano, the Italian manufacturer of Toscano Cigars, has purchased an 80 percent stake of the Scranton, Penn.- area Avanti Cigar Company. "Through this acquisition we want to better understand the U.S. cigar market," said MST's Pierfrancesco Saccotelli of the maker of machine- made Avanti, De Nobli, Parodi, Petri, Ram Rod, Europa, and Kentucky Cheroots.
