On any given day, the people at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and Hospital help to change some lives and save others. Those who are affected often choose to make a difference themselves. And so, a chain of giving is forged, a phenomenon that builds over months and years.
It's easy and all too human to rush past this, caught up in the mundane demands of life. Yet when we pause to see the impact, it's amazing. It's something to anticipate and celebrate.
The University of Illinois community has had much to celebrate in fiscal year 2011, as the Brilliant Futures campaign illuminated a path for the institution that is teeming with possibility. Your giving raised more than $250 million for the College of Medicine and hospital, and the pages in this publication detail some of the quiet heroes in our midst, whose donations are creating the future for our campuses, our medical students and residents, our professors and researchers.
A new gift from an alumnus from the Class of 1943? Yes, that's the kind of people we are. Medical help for children reeling from abuse? A must-do. Faculty members funding scholarships? Naturally. Our chain of giving accepts all ages, all backgrounds, just like the university, which trains more physicians than any other institution in the country.
