RETAILOBSERVER.COM MAY 2016 10 T he AD Design Show's signature feature areas of REFRESH, FURNISH, MADE, and SHOPS were replete with luxury design products, many on view for the very first time in the U.S. There was a large contingent of new exhibitors: 117 overall, 69 of them in the MADE section. Design inspiration continued in the Jenn-Air Master Class Studio, the official show theater, which hosted captivating seminars, including a keynote by Architectural Digest Editor-in-Chief Margaret Russell with Reed and Daphne Krakoff. There were also lively and informative sessions with interior designers Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, Suzanne Kasler, Campion Platt, Vicente Wolf and AD 100 Architect Alexander Gorlin, as well as TV personalities Genevieve Gorder and George Oliphant, and more. Special networking events, demonstrations and tours rounded out the exclusive experience. According to Susan McCullough, senior vice president, Vornado/ The Mart, "The show has become known as the 'essential showcase for luxury design.' This year's edition not only met this expectation, it went above and beyond. Our exhibitors represented the best in the industry and it's clear that they brought their absolute finest product to the show floor. This high level of excellence was carried throughout the show, from the insightful, sophisticated programming, to the tremendous caliber of national and international brands." The 15th annual edition of the Architectural Digest Design Show also marked a number of milestones for participating exhibitors, especially in the REFRESH pavilion. Here's a look at some highlights from the 2016 collection of kitchen, bath, luxury appliances, and premium building products. Founded in 1683, Gaggenau just turned 333 years old. The German brand displayed its new 400 combi-steam oven series, which is ideal for sous-vide cooking. Thermador celebrated its 100- year anniversary by showcasing an exceptional range of products including an updated 36" Induction Cooktop with Flex Induction, which is set to be released this summer, as well as a 24" Custom Panel Refrigerator, which will be available this fall. Baldwin Hardware turned 70 in a bold and beautiful fashion, unveiling new additions to its Reserve collection, as well as knobs integrated with a new push- button privacy feature to enhance egress functionality. Third- generation, family-owned Sub-Zero Group, Inc. also recently celebrated 70 years. From the first freezer built in Westye F. Bakke's basement, to the recent rollout of more than 70 new generation SubZero and Wolf appliances, the company continues to innovate. It introduced its first ever Wolf Induction Range at the show.
