March / April 2016 6 EDITOR'S COLUMN By Stan Thorne A Quick Drive To ADULT SHOW-N-TELL I woke up early last Saturday with a smile on my face. Last week, I installed a new Fabspeed X-Pipe on The Ghost, and today was the day to show it off at breakfast. I'd compare it to the old show-n-tell from grad school, but with more expensive toys and just as much childish enthusiasm. Everyone's upgrades or personalization touches can be discussed for hours. Wheels and tires are always a hot topic. But on that day, I got to show off my exhaust. I decided to take the road less traveled to breakfast. I smiled as the harmonious roar broke the early morning silence. I back-roaded it to I-35, letting the exhaust sing loudly as I zoomed to highway speed. Now any true car guy knows a loud exhaust sounds better in a tunnel. The Top Gear TV show proves that. With only one tunnel near, the 75th street exit tunnel, it was my destination. Perfect timing. No one near me. I rolled my windows down and opened the sunroof, and then slowed down. I down shifted and listened to the burble of the exhaust for a moment, then hit it. It was as if the trumpets of heaven were blaring His arrival. I was shoved back in the seat as the turbos (Yes, two; if one is a good thing, surely two of it is better.) thrust me forward. I grabbed the next gear and punched it again. Exiting on 75th, I then went west to Nieman. Going north on Nieman leads you across some train tracks and then drops into an office park, a.k.a. 'The Twisties'. This section of road is a slithering snake of asphalt meant for nothing more than short bursts of speed followed by quick stabs at the brake. Gas it again and squirt through the turn, then smile. The Twisties are short, but my smile is big. A quick check of the time reveals it is time for breakfast. Goodbye Twisties, I'll be back. Arriving at LePeep reveals a big crowd. This is it, my turn to do a little show- n-tell with all my friends and I'm ready. - STAN Letter TO THE EDITOR Hi Stan, We were absolutely blown away to open the dersportwagen magazine that you edit so profes- sionally. What a wonder- ful surprise to see old Speedy looking back on the cover no less. And you are very accomplished in layout and digital artwork. The whole magazine is so well done. I'm very happy to have taken your submission re- quest seriously because to see an exposure of my old baby to such an ardent group seems amazing. I am forwarding it to several friends who will now fully understand when hearing my glowing description of the Speedy Years. You've given me an equally exciting present that warms my heart, Stan.
