Befrits believes working for global rec- ognition and adoption of tobacco harm reduction is a crucial strategy. John Boley has a background in jour- nalism. An experienced TV/video present- er, producer and writer, he has worked on a wide range of contentious issues. Dr. Brian Carter is the director of scientific communications for the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives (CASAA). Trained as a clin- ical psychologist, Dr. Carter's field of study is addictive behavior, with a focus on the pharmacological, psychological, and behavioral foundations of tobac- co and nicotine use, dependence and motivation. As a faculty member in the Department of Behavioral Science at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, he conducted multiple studies on nicotine use. Luc Van Daele, an architect and acoustical designs engineer, has been va- ping since 2007. He played a part in im- proving on the first generation of e-cig- arettes, sending his designs to Chinese manufacturers who took some of them to production. Donna Darvill, a sales and market- ing professional to the health, educa- tion and legal professions is a found- ing board member of New Nicotine Alliance Australia. Dr. Lynne Dawkins, a leading author- ity on e-cigarettes in the UK, has pub- lished papers on their utilization, effects and nicotine delivery. An associate pro- fessor of psychology in the Addictions Unit at London South Bank University, Dr. Dawkins has twenty years' expe- rience of working with smokers in re- search contexts as well as with novice and experienced e-cigarette users. Stefan Didak, a software designer, switched from smoking to vaping over four years ago. The creator of the not- blowingsmoke.org website/movement and the newnomorecasualties.org edu- cational campaign, Didak advocates for vapor products and frequently testifies before state and local legislators and policy makers. Miroslaw Dworniczak, Ph.D., is a chemist, freelance science journal- ist, former scientist and lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Adam M i c k i e w i c z U n i v e r s i t y ( P o z n a n , P o l a n d ) . A s t h e c h a r a c t e r " S t a r y Chemik" he authored "Old Chemist," an alternatively informative and entertain- ing Polish language blog dealing with e-cigarettes and e-liquid chemistry and safety (starychemik.wordpress.com). J.F. Etter, Ph.D., an internationally known expert on e-cigarettes, published some of the first scientific papers on e-cigarettes. His research has been cru- cial in shaping the initial understanding of the reasons and patterns of e-ciga- rette use. Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos is a car- diologist who works as a researcher at the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens- Greece and at the University of Patras in Greece. Since 2010, he has studied the ef- fects of smoking on subclinical cardiac dysfunction and e-cigarettes at both the clinical and laboratory level. Farsalinos is credited with the first study on the cyto- toxic effects of electronic cigarette vapor on cultured cells and the immediate effects of electronic cigarettes used on cardiac function and coronary circulation. M a r e w a G l o v e r , chair of End Smoking NZ, is an associate member of the New Nicotine Alliance UK and the New Nicotine Alliance Australia. She is an associate professor in Massey University's School of Public Health where her focus for teaching and research will be tobac- co control, particularly reducing tobacco smoking while pregnant and reducing smoking. Glover works in a region where the import and sale or distribution of nicotine e-liquid is banned and to assist those in need, she set up Vape It Forward on Twitter—@vapeitfwd allows overseas people to donate and send starter kits and nicotine e-liquid direct to smokers in NZ. Dr. Amy Faith Ho, an emergency room physician in the US, holds lead- ership positions in such American medical organizations as the American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society, American Academy of Emergency Medicine and Illinois College of Emergency Physicians. Her interest in addiction stems from intern- ing at the Betty Ford Center and work- ing in the emergency room where sub- stance abuse is commonplace. Martin Jarvis is professor emeritus of health psychology at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, University College London. Over the past 35 years he has researched and published widely on the role of nico- tine, social and family influences on smoking, smoking cessation methods and passive smoking. He is a trustee of ASH and was deputy chair of the UK government's Scientific Committee on Tobacco and Health and a specialist ad- viser to the House of Commons Health Committee's inquiries into tobacco and smoking in public. Sarah Jakes smoked for 35 years, then switched to vaping in 2013, only to find that what she thought was a safer alternative for smokers was under threat from what she saw as excessive and ill-founded regulation—so she joined in the battle against over regulation by the EU parliament. Lorien Jollye is an ex-smoker of 23 years who found that e-cigarettes en- abled her to switch her habit entirely, in one day. Since then, she has been a vocal advocate, volunteering with the
