Instead of filibusters and infighting, the best and brightest hockey minds will be looking to reach across the aisle to improve the quality of coaching in our game. The three-day event will take place Aug. 23-26 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C., Downtown Hotel, and is open to USA Hockey registered coaches who have completed their coaching certification Levels 1-4 prior to May 1. Over the years the Symposium has featured an impressive lineup of speakers. This year's event promises to follow suit. One change in the format will be the inclusion of age-specific breakout sessions. Coaches will have an opportunity to explore innovative approaches to coaching through intensive sessions dedicated to the specific age level of their players. They will leave with tools and resources that they can use in their on-ice practices and dryland training sessions. There will still be a number of general ing, including how the teams will be divided and who will coach the teams. Ticket information is available at USAHockey.com. presentations with topics dealing with all aspects of the game of hockey and will feature a number of prominent NHL, AHL and college coaches. Candidates for Level 5 certification are required to attend the entire Symposium.
