Inhalation JUNE 2016 25 PEOPLE NEWS Warren Finlay receives Charles Thiel Award Dr. Warren Finlay, a professor of mechanical engineering from the Uni- versity of Alberta, received the Charles G. Thiel Award at RDD ® 2016. He is known for developing the adult and child Alberta Idealized Throats and pre- dictive deposition models that led to improved understanding of the behav- ior of hygroscopic materials in the lung. The "Charlie" Award was established by the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy and is sponsored by 3M Drug Delivery Systems. Inaugural Peter Byron Award presented at RDD® 2016 The first VCU RDD Peter R. Byron Graduate Student Award was presented at RDD ® 2016. The recipient was Matthias Van Woensel from the Uni- versity of Leuven, Belgium for his pre- sentation "Development of siRNA- loaded chitosan nanoparticles targeting galectin-1 for the treatment of glioblas- toma multiforme via intranasal admin- istration." To honor Peter Byron's distinguished career and influence on respiratory drug delivery, the "Pete" Award was created by his former gradu- ate students, academic colleagues and personal friends.
