Kafie 1901 Cigars to Add 40 Ring Maduro Over the past three years, Dr. Gaby Kafie—whose family has roots in Honduras dating back to 1901— and his team at Danlí-based Tabacalera Puros Aliados have brought three new premium cigar blends to market: a Nicaraguan Habano maduro blend, an Ecuador Connecticut, and most recently an Ecuador Sumatra blend. All blends are in permanent production and geared exclusively for brick & mor- tar shops nationally. Since the addition of new com- pany member Shiah Goldberg as vice president of sales, the compa- ny has been traveling the country, hosting events and interacting with hundreds of consumers. Countless requests for the release of a small ring gauge version of the com- pany's maduro blend prompted the manufacturer to "give con- sumers what they want," resulting in the release of the company's Don Fernando maduro in a new Petit Perla (5 1/2 x 40) format. The cigars will be packaged in 50-count solid Spanish cedar boxes, and pricing will be "very competitive," says the manufacturer. The first wave of boxes is set to begin shipping to stores in April. The new shape joins Don Fernando Maduro blend's exist five frontmarks: Robusto (5 x 50), V Sixty (5 x 60), Torpedo (6 1/2 x 52), Toro Bello (6 x 54), and a VI Sixty (6 x 60).
