14 SMOKESHOP August 2016 Club Macanudo at the Knick Debuts at NYC's Knickerbocker Hotel new york—The Knickerbocker Hotel and Club Macanudo have launched an outdoor cigar lounge called "Club Macanudo at The Knick" in a joint partnership at the legendary Times Square hotel's rooftop bar, St. Cloud. The lounge opened on July 7, re- placing what had been a similar venture that had been operated by New York tobacconist Nat Sherman last season. Nat Sherman ended its relationship with The Knickerbock- er in April and closed the "Nat Sherman Cigar Lounge at St. Cloud." Bill Sherman, executive vice president of Nat Sherman International, said in a statement that the association with The Knickerbocker "did not provide an experience that was con- ducive to, or representative of, the Nat Sherman brand." Shawn Hauver, managing director of The Knickerbocker, said, "The brand and philosophy of Club Macanudo compli- ments The Knickerbocker's ongoing reputation as an elegant haven for socializing, business networking, and indulging in the very best that New York City has to offer." Expanding Club Macanudo's presence to The Knicker- bocker Hotel strategically places the exclusive Upper East Side cigar lounge in a scenic outdoor location that caters to New Yorkers and elite travelers from across the globe. St. Cloud, situated at 42nd Street overlooking Times Square, occupies 7,800 square feet with three plush corner "sky pods" and offers a seasonal menu created by renowned chef Charlie Palmer. Cigar lounge guests will enjoy a selection of parent company General Cigar's premium cigar brands including Ma- canudo, Cohiba, CAO and others, along with signature cigar and drink pairings, cut-and-light demonstrations, and special events amidst sweeping skyline views. > Chicago retailer Iwan Ries & Co., along with NATO, CRA, the Illinois Association of Wholesale Distributors, the Illinois Retail Merchants Association, IPCPR, and Arango Cigar Co., signed an "agreed order" delaying the July 1st enforcement and collection of the city's new OTP tax until 60 days after the Circuit Court of Cook County judge issues a decision on whether the OTP tax is pre-empted by state law. The group sued the city over the tax and filed an emergency motion for a preliminary junction against the July 1st effective date. VAPOR NATION 1/2H 400 W.
