58 SMOKESHOP August 2016 UPDATE Pipe >>>MERCHANDISE & NEWS FROM THE PIPE WORLD Cornell & Diehl Updates Packaging for Working Man Series The Working Man Series of pipe tobaccos from Cornell & Diehl has been upgraded with sophisticated new graphics for both the 2oz. ($11.25 MSRP) and 8oz. ($29.50 MSRP) tin formats. There are three blends in the series. Morning Drive Time is a mixture of red and bright Virginias with Burley, Turkish, Perique, and Latakia. Lunchtime Blues is a Burley- based blend mixed with Virginias and a touch of Orientals. Five O'Clock Shadow is a pressed cake of red Virginias, dark- fired Kentucky, and Perique. The Pocket from Vauen Re-imagines the Travel Pipe Pipe smokers are already among the most idiosyncratic of tobacco lovers, but Vauen pushed the boundaries of individuality even further in developing a sleek, compact, super-practical travel briar called simply the Pocket, embracing a freehand form that answers many of the traditional shortcomings of the genre. It's built for the true individualist. Stout and curvaceous with a smooth, durable acrylic stem, the Pocket slides effortlessly into and out of clothing and is far sturdier than most typical briars, much less well-meaning but often extra-delicate travel pipes, fully capable of standing up to the rigors of smoking on-the-go. Twist the two parts at the mortise-and-tenon junction to reveal the smoking bowl, install a standard 9mm filter, pack with tobacco, and twist close again for travel without the need for a separate cap. In addition to the two White Dot quality smooth-bright and smooth-brown models, Vauen offers a sandblasted version that easily hides potential scratches and, thanks to its surface relief, offers the benefit of a cooler smoke. The Pocket is presented in an elegant leather zipper case. Arango Cigar Company Debuts Innovative New Erik Nording Pipes Danish master pipe carver Erik Nording has created two new pipes and a line extension to the Eriksen Keystone Filter Pipe that are available now from Arango Cigar Co., the exclusive U.S. distributor for Nording pipes. The company will be spotlighting these exciting new designs in their IPCPR 2016 Trade Show pavilion. The all-new Seagull and Spiral pipes will excite pipe lovers with their novel and fanciful variations on the Danish school of pipe design. Their smooth black finish is lightly hand-engraved, leaving patterns in the exposed lighter-colored briar. Seagull's is an abstract flock of the birds in flight, while Spiral has a bold spiral that wraps diagonally from top to bottom on the bowl's sides. Both pipes offer medium-to-large bowl sizes, and feature bent military-style bits. They wholesale for $52.50, including a Nording bag. Nording has also added Colors to his original Eriksen Keystone Filter Pipe line, offered in orange, white, and green. Like the all-black introductory model first seen at IPCPR 2015, they all share black plastic bits. Eriksen Colors come with black rusticated bowls, while the black Eriksen offers a choice of black, black grain, natural, and rusticated finishes on the bowls. All Eriksen pipes accept the popular Nording Keystones, which make the smoke cool and dry. Users simply unscrew the bowl from the body's base, add a pinch of the small, highly-absorbent volcanic mineral clay Keystones into the cavity of the base, and replace the bowl. The Keystones can also be used to absorb excess moisture in any style pipe by simply putting a few into the bottom of the bowl. Individual blister-packaged Eriksen pipes wholesale for $17.50 and include a small 14-gram tin of Keystones. The tins can be purchased separately at a wholesale cost of $48 per box of 48. Keystones are also sold in 100-gram bags, at $6 wholesale per bag. Arango Cigar Co., Northbrook, Ill., Toll-free: (800) 222-4427, Email: ArangoCigar@aol.com.
