Phil Clark came to the Tigers in 1976, a local product from Frayser High School looking to catch for Bobby Kilpatrick. He hit better than .300 in both seasons with the Tigers and was instrumental in the 1978 squad's 40-9 record and an NCAA South Regional Final appearance. In the Tigers' elimination of ETSU, Clark collected two hits and scored a run. The father of current Tigers assistant coach Zach Clark, Phil went on to become a successful high school coach in the Memphis area.
