In 2007, Mike Paxton became the first former Memphis pitcher to have his jersey retired. Paxton was a four- year letterwinner under Coach Bobby Kilpatrick, going 22-11 and striking out 200 batters during that time. He was draſted by the Boston Red Sox in 1975 and enjoyed a four-year stint in the bigs. Paxton ranks sixth all-time in strikeouts (208) and also holds the fourth-best, single-season ERA (1.87 in 1974). He was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 1982.
