November / December 2016 18 Laughing, I figured the bearings were shot and we would make it a couple laps. The team continued to pound the car until very late in the day with zero issues and great oil pressure until the head gasket let go and re- tired the car from the race. So where does that leave us? With the hours on the car, and many other endurance options at our fingertips with the Boxsters and Mustangs, we decided that the car would best be used by stripping her down to parts and getting those parts to live on in other race cars. Jeremy Butcher (Greg Wright's old 944S2) will get some Lexan parts and the fire suppression system. Kris Loveless will add some parts to his 944 SP1 race car, including the transmission, tires, and some suspension bits. Maybe a few parts will end up on a Boxster someday, it's anyone's guess. By Monday afternoon, the day after the race weekend, Kris and I had her stripped essentially to the bare carcass. We plan on giving her a 21 gun salute out in the coun- try as a final farewell. We will make sure the chassis never sees another driver. I keep hearing "Cliff Jump" and dynamite. It's up in the air as to how exactly we will give it a She definitely got her shares of bumps and bruises, but was always brought back. Crew Chief #2 staying cool in her cool shirt, and making sure it all runs smoothly
