November / December 2016 28 KRCPCA SOCIAL By Deborah Thorne Jim & Nancy Rand's KCRPCA OKTOBERFEST I never thought I would be a member of a car club. I knew my husband was a car-guy when I married him. Heck, I remember him downshifting to pass his father on the way to church, but that is another story. I just never thought I would be in a car club and - like it so much! Stan and I have been PCA members for over six years now and I have to say the social gatherings are the highlights for me. Sure I like to go fast in cars occasionally, but getting to meet and be with so many wonderful people means a lot to me. That is why when the Rand's Oktoberfest rolled around I made sure we were signed up to attend. Many others must have felt the same way, because there were close to 60 that signed up to attend!!! Oktoberfest is one of my favorite outings for the KCRPCA. The Rand's estate is breathtaking with his rolling land, lake, and perfect setting for a social gathering. This year we even had an official Ooom-pah band! Holly, our Social Chairperson, put on a wonderful event again. She handled everything from the food, decor, a band, and right down to hot pretzels! Yum! A special thank you should be said to the Rands. Nancy and Jim have hosted this event several years in a row now, and I hope it continues. While my friends and I gathered around hot pretzels and wine, our husbands walked the line of beautiful Porsches. I am amazed at how they can point out the slightest differences on each model, and there were a lot to look at. From Mecans to 944s and Caymans to 911s almost all models were represented. We even had several track cars show up, Racer X, #9 in the top corner and Deluxe Truck Stop Martini striped car at the bottom of page 25. There were so many cars I think we should do a people's choice award next year! Whatever we do, next year I know Stan and I will be back to see friends, cars, pretzels and the Oom- pah band! - DEBORAH
