November / December 2016 6 M ay you live in interesting times? We all know about the old saying of "may you live in interesting times."! But Wow, we certainly have that in spades over the last few years. We are living through a Presidential election that is one for the ages. Not only do we have two candidates that make it interesting, but all the other characters that make for a good plot for a suspense movie. Where else can you get Russian hackers, where the public gets to see inside some emails as to how the politicians actually think when in private. Of course, those emails can't come out without someone to send them out and that is from Wikileaks . The man behind that door is in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. Are you confused yet! So as I stated, we are all living in interesting times, but there is so much more in our world that is making life so rich and interesting. I am always going to talk about cars and that world is so interesting that you can hardly keep up. The Porsche world continues to be prolific with so many great offerings and always making them better and better. In this world, we are definitely "living in interesting times". Here in our Kansas City Region, we have had a very good year. We have done more events this year than I can recall in recent years between social events, fun drives, autocross, tech events, dinners, car shows and some local racing. Speaking of racing; for those that have not heard, as I understand it, that Heartland Park's road course is being resurfaced. We have all been waiting for the return of local racing, so keep your fingers crossed that our dearth of racing may be over. If that comes together, that will be something that we have been hoping would occur. Going back to the theme of living in interesting times, there are certainly signs for that to be true. We have serious people looking to get a mission to Mars and I hope that happens as mankind has to be reaching out and growing and I can't think of a better way to do that. As long as I am talking about speedy transportation, I would like to see supersonic airplanes come back to being a normal thing. I am betting that new designs will make that happen before long. One great change in our world right now is energy and the current abundance of it with normal drilling, fracking, and further development in alternatives. I like an all hands on deck approach with energy, so that we have many options and having the energy to power the future cars/trucks and all the machinery that we enjoy. That issue alone is always going to be the big question in our lives to keep us in interesting times. No matter what is in our future, I know that we are fortunate to live in the most interesting times of all here in the USA. Do your civic duty and vote for you choice of candidates in the upcoming elections, as that is important to us all. - Tim PRESIDENT'S COLUMN By Tim Bubniak Politics, Activities, Planes, & Mars INTERESTING TIMES
