sparked the idea of exploring the possibility of building a recording studio on property where artists could stay, record and perform. Nothing is definite yet, but Ahn is hopeful. "We looked around and realized that there really is no longer a high-end recording studio in the area. It would be great to build a place where local and touring musicians can create." Folktale has hosted a few special events to date, including a highly successful August fundraising effort for victims of the Soberanes Fire that raised more than $100,000. There's a Chef Duel, featuring local chefs in an Iron-Chef- like competition, and a weekly, all-you-can-eat Taco Tuesday. All this—and more—adds up to Folktale becoming a must-go destination for locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is energetic, friendly and upbeat and the Folktale staff are like co-conspir- ators and ambassadors of fun. Ahn likes to point to the famous Bella Notte spaghetti scene in the Disney film "Lady and the Tramp," in which the two stars share a plate of pasta, ending in a kiss. "We're the crazy Italian guys creating the atmos- phere," he laughs. "Music, art, wine and food are all part of the celebration of life," Ahn enthuses. "We want Folktale to be a place where the community can come and hang out." Judging by the quality of events Ahn and his staff have lined up, there's no doubt they will.
