Six) and betting on football, which, to Americans, is soccer. You will spot them as you tour Hong Kong and pop inside for a two-minute look. The philan- thropic side of the Hong Kong Jockey Club is quite remarkable and you will see the Jockey Club name outside schools, parks and community projects as the betting surpluses are invested in local causes to the tune of nearly HK$4 billion per year. The parks in Hong Kong are beautifully landscaped and definitely worth a visit. If you are staying on the Hong Kong side, I recommend Victoria Park for some outdoor morning exercise or Tamar Park for a casual walk or jog along the harbor. Another good option is to make your way to Bowen Road for a run or brisk walk and, if you are more adventurous, hike along Black's Link where some of the sights and the homes will surprise you. Hong Kong Park in Central is also a nice place to visit in the morning or lunchtime. It is also very close to St. John's Cathedral if you wish to attend Sunday mass at 9 am, before heading out to Sha Tin. The main point here is there is much more to Hong Kong than you might initially think. There is a good chance that you will see a group of locals doing tai chi in the morning and sometimes it is complete with local music, which is really terrific. You can join in the tai chi by just following the leader. If you are staying on the Kowloon side, you can go to Kowloon Park in TST. Lastly, if hiking is your thing, make sure you do the Dragon's Back hike, which is a bit tricky to find the starting point, but once you get on the track – the views of Shek O, Stanley, Tai Tam and the South China Sea make it worth the effort.
