Dlagnev did not start wrestling until his sophomore year in high school.
He placed fourth in the Texas state tournament in 2002, in just his second year of wrestling.
He was born in Bulgaria, and moved to the United States when he was four years old.
He knocked off 2004 and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Championships.
He beat past college rival Les Sigman, a 2010 U.S. World Team member, in the final-round series to make his first Olympic Team in 2012.
He led Nebraska-Kearney to the 2007 NCAA Division II team title, its first in school history.
