206 • S P O R T I N G C L A S S I C S Auctions & Exhibitions GUYETTE & DEETER DECOY AUCTION On February 18, Guyette & Deeter, Inc. will hold their fifth consecutive decoy auction in partnership with the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston, South Carolina. The SEWE board of directors asked Guyette & Deeter to establish an auction that would revive the tradition of old decoys and collectibles at the show. For this reason, Guyette & Deeter will keep the auction completely unreserved, so all participants have a chance at buying a quality item at a bargain price. Auction bidders have been assured that the company guarantees their condition reports, which not all auction houses do. They will also keep their buyer's premium at 15 percent, in an environment where most other auction houses have moved to 25 percent. The auction of nearly 275 decoys and related items will be held at the Charleston Marriott on Lockwood Boulevard. The first preview will be 3-5 p.m. on Friday, February 17, and the second preview will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the auction at noon. Price estimates will range from $100 to $30,000 and include such world- famous, old-time decoy carvers as Elmer Crowell and Joseph Lincoln, John Dilley, the Ward Brothers, Ned Burgess, and Alvirah Wright. For an online preview, visit the firm's website at The auction is open to the public and there is no admission fee. A 40-table decoy show will be held in the same facility. Online bidding is available through www. For more information about the Exposition, visit or call (843) 723-1748. Guyette & Deeter, Inc. conducted their annual fall decoy and sporting art auction on November 10 in conjunction with the Easton Waterfowl Festival. The auction grossed just over $1.8 million, with 33 lots selling for more than $10,000 and two lots topping $100,000. Top
