All Saints' Welcomes New Head of School B Y B R E T T W I L B U R A t 6' 7" tall with a beaming smile, Hugh Jebson makes an unmistakable entrance. The new head of school at All Saints' Day School in Carmel Valley, Jebson's warmth and intelligence exude as he speaks of what drew him to the Episcopal campus which ser ves Pre-K through 8th graders. "I was struck immediately by how the chil- dren look you in the eye and shake your hand," he says. "They can engage with adults. On top of that are the academics, preparation and sense of community. Students who gradu- ate from here find great success at all schools." Originally from England, Jebson moved to Iowa as a teenager and played football at the University of Iowa. He attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland for his post-grad work, studying world politics and histor y. His wife Danelle works as a local hospice nurse, and they have three children. "All Saints' is not a school for ever ybody," Jebson says. "It has to be the right fit for the school and the family. It is for people who want a spiritual and values-based education. It is not so much a religious school. We are plu- ralistic, though we have an Episcopal identity and traditions, which is about seeing God in all things and all people. We want to protect the dignity of ever ybody. There is a strong sense of social justice." All Saints' Day School, 8060 Carmel Valley Rd., Carmel Valley. 831/624-9171. www.asds.org.
