s p r i n g 2 0 1 7 | 6 7 JUST DAYS AFTER AN UNPRECEDENTED eight states passed medical or recreational cannabis initiatives last fall, the emerging industry's key players gathered at the Mari- juana Business Daily's fifth annual Mari- juana Business Conference & Expo at The Rio in Las Vegas, November 15-18, 2016. The publishers of Marijuana Busi- ness Daily project that after this historic election the industry could see up to an ad- ditional $8 billion in annual retail cannabis sales in the coming years. The cannabis industry already has a $14 billion impact on the economy, confirming that this industry is here to stay. State-by-state retail sales estimates for states that legalized on Elec- tion Day were released at the Marijuana Business Conference & Expo on Wednes- day, November 16. Named the fastest growing trade show of 2015 in the U.S. by Trade Show Executive magazine, the Marijuana Business Confer- ence & Expo shows no signs of slowing down. This is reflected by the 10,000+ attendees, representing all 50 states and 18 countries. The Expo began in 2012 and is the oldest and largest show in the cannabis space, playing host to entrepreneurs and major private investors, along with more than 320 exhibitors on a 45,000-net-square-foot expo floor. All seven key industry sectors were fully represented: dispensaries and recreation retailers, wholesale growers, professional and financial services, infused product makers, private equity investors, ancillary products and tech and testing labs. New to the show this year: MJBizCon Science Symposium, a full-day workshop for business people to meet top scientists, learn basics about the plant and therapies, hear advanced case studies and discover new research; The Dispensary Experience, a virtual and interactive walk through a can- nabis shop that explores innovative design, technology and equipment; and The Seed Lab, where attendees could meet 30 of the newest companies in the cannabis industry. Watch for this show to grow in 2017 as it moves to the Las Vegas Convention Center for more exhibit space.
