Morton Grove Park District | 6834 Dempster Street | 847.965.1200 | mortongroveparks.com 32 Youth Dance YOUTH ZUMBA CLASS Zumba Kids SB Age 6-12 | See page 28 2017 Summer Dance Program Ages 3-18 Morton Grove Park District offers a variety of dance classes for children ages 3 -18 years old, from tap to hip hop to ballet – and more. Classes are held at the Prairie View Community Center, 6834 Dempster Street in Morton Grove. Flex your dance muscles this summer! Be sure to register early! Last day for summer dance registration is June 20. Class Descriptions ME & MY SHADOW: This class is an opportunity for adults and tots to interact in a group setting and develop listening skills through movement and play. CREATIVE MOVEMENT: Creative Movement is an introduction to the development of free movement for young bodies, following directions, and structured imagination games. BALLET BASICS I: This introductory ballet class is a great place to start for the beginning ballet dancer. We will focus on ballet terminology, stretching, and fl oor and center work. BALLET I & III: Dancers will concentrate on full body connectivity and explore new terminology with these traditional ballet classes. JAZZ I: Jazz is a fun and energetic style of movement. This class will explore isolations along with various combinations. JAZZ & BALLET I & II: In addition to furthering their ballet education, dancers will also be exposed to jazz technique through fun, upbeat music. This class offers one recital piece that will be determined by the instructor. CONTEMPORARY BALLET: This new emerging style fuses the technique of ballet with the abstraction of modern dance. Dancers are encouraged to develop their artistic voice. LYRICAL BALLET I: This class combines ballet technique with movement choreographed specifi cally to the lyrics. HIP HOP CLASSES - TEENY BOP HIP HOP, HIP HOP KIDS I, HIP HOP I: Through these high energy classes, dancers will enjoy age appropriate movement and music, and develop individual expression. Bring your "A Game" and get ready to learn fun and funky moves! CHOREOGRAPHY CLASS: Want to dive in deeper and take your choreography skills to the next level? Dancers will learn to create their own movement and fi nd different pathways to connect with an audience utilizing choreographic tools in a safe, positive, and inviting environment. TECHNIQUE I: Dancers will focus on core, alignment, and strength to enhance their stage performance. These technical skills will translate into a dancer's understanding of their body and the art of dance. These classes will not participate in the recital. STRETCH & STRENGTHEN: Flexibility and strengthen are essential for a dancer who wants to perform and feel their best. This class will use concepts and exercises from yoga, Pilates and other strength training practices. Dancers will work to develop muscles and prevent injury, while improving fl exibility and building stamina. This class does not perform in the summer dance showcase. POM SQUAD I & II: This class blends sharp movements with jazz and hip hop technique. Through high energy movement, dancers will create visual effects with poms and have fun with their friends! STARBOUND COMPANY CLASSES: Starbound Dance Company is for the advanced, dedicated, well-rounded dancer, ready to take their technique to the next level. Dancers participate in community performances and are a recreational, competitive group. Company classes are by instructor approval only. Additional costume and competition costs are not included in registration fee. SHAKE OFF SUMMER (SOS) I & II: Shake Off Summer (SOS): Designed for the advanced dancers, this class is for dancers to refresh skills before the start of the dance year. Summer was busy-time to shake it off and shape up! This workshop format will include lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, tap, jazz, and ballet. r up ee s Dancing Through Decades Spring Dance Recital KH Sunday, May 7 12:00-2:00 PM TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE Maine East High School Tickets in advance $10, at the door $15. Summer Dance Showcase August 2 | 6:45 pm Harrer Park Shelter Let our dancers entertain you as you sit back in your lawn chair or lounge on your blanket in the grass! Our Summer Showcase is a fun way for our dancers to show off their new dance moves.
