THE RIVER CAFÉ, Thames Wharf, Rainville Road, Lon-
don. 44.20.7386.4200 | rivercafe.co.uk
I always say the same place: the River Café is still probably my
top, top restaurant. I just think if you want to eat some truly
beautiful ingredients cooked with simplicity and understand-
ing, it's hard to better the River Café.
108 GARAGE, 108 Golborne Road, London (Notting Hill)
Chris's food is outstanding contemporary cooking in "of the
moment" urban surroundings. Really special.

I had a great meal at a restaurant called Clipstone, which is
new. Clipstone was sort of the sibling of the restaurant Port-
land. Absolutely delicious.

HAKKASAN, 8 Hanway Place, and 17 Bruton Street, Lon-
don. Hakkasan.com
For Asian food, I either go super local--we have a restaurant
called Awesome Thai in Barnes. It's not world-class cooking,
it's good cooking but the hospitality is so impressive. But we
also go to places like Hakkasan. I just love it there. Is life bet-
ter for being in Hakkasan? I think, yeah it is. I love the food. I
love the place. I think that is where modern-day super-urban
restaurants have got to.
It's always interesting to know where great chefs like
to eat and what they would recommend to those visit-
ing London this spring and summer. We asked Howard
just that. Here are his picks:
