I hockey program following the groundbreaking of Pegula Ice Arena. The new 6,000-seat state-of-the-art facility is made possible by an $88-million donation from Terry Pegula, who, along with his wife Kim, attended the April 20 groundbreaking ceremony. "This is truly a momentous day for Penn State, our student-athletes, the local community and ice hockey fans everywhere," Penn State President Rodney Erickson said. "Our goal is to make this arena, and the vast array of activities to be held in it, the national model by which all other programs are measured." Pegula Ice Arena will be completed in time for the 2013-14 season, both the men's and women's hockey teams' second year at the varsity level. During their inaugural seasons, both teams will play at the Greenberg/Penn State Ice Pavilion, home to the Penn State Icers non- varsity teams for the past 30 years. After competing this season as an independent team, the Penn State men's program will join the likes of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State in the six-team Big Ten conference starting in 2013-14, while the women's team will join the College Hockey America division. 10 college graduate who is pursuing a career in hockey operations. Breen, who graduated from Providence in 2012 with a master's degree in business administration, has spent the past season as the director of hockey operations for the Friars' men's hockey team. He has also spent time working with the Boston Bruins and Providence Bruins, coordinating hockey operations and promoting the game at a grassroots level. Established in April 2010, the Brendan Burke Internship was founded in memory of the late Brendan Burke, who served as a student assistant for the Miami University hockey team and was the son of Brian Burke, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2010 U.S. Men's Olympic Team.
