The Lady Tigers had one of the finest seasons in school history in 1996-97. Newcomer Amanda Moltke-Leth earned medalist honors at the 1997 Conference USA Championships, leading Memphis to the tournament title. Moltke-Leth was named the C-USA Freshman of the Year, and Debby King was selected the C-USA Coach of the Year. The Lady Tigers earned a NCAA East Regional bid and placed eighth at the event.
