as a luxury boutique hotel.
A
nearly five-year over-
haul and transforma-
tion complete, it re-
opens this summer,
just in time for Sara-
toga's Thoroughbred
racing season, which launches on Fri-
day, July 21. Linking the old with the
new - so common in Saratoga Springs
where history is revered - a formal
ribbon cutting was scheduled for July
5, exactly 140 years to the day after
William McCaffrey opened his new
hotel at 365 Broadway in 1877.
From a distance across the street,
this incarnation of the Adelphi looks
like a spiffed-up version of the famil-
iar four-story building with the unique
facade, featuring a piazza on the sec-
ond floor. Inside, though, most every-
thing is new as part of a $34 million
project executed by Richbell Capital,
whose partners in this venture in-
clude Larry Roth, co-owner of the LNJ
Foxwoods racing outfit. Glen Coben's
New York-based architectural and in-
terior design firm, Glen & Company,
orchestrated the Adelphi overhaul.
