TCA104AA 3 credits 3 periods Practice Court: Criminal Conduct a mock civil case, focus on all stages of trial from commencement of the action to final judgment. TCA203 1 credit 1 period Ethics for the Tribal Court Advocate Rules of professional responsibility and ethical considerations pertinent to tribal court advocates. Prerequisites: TCA101. TCA211 3 credits 3 periods Introduction to Tribal Cases and Codes Introduction to the process of legal research. Reading and briefing cases using the Issue-Rule-Analysis-Conclusion (IRAC) approach, legal analysis of cases and codes, elements of a legal memorandum with emphasis on legal writing skills. Prerequisites or Corequisites: (ENG101 and TCA101) or permission of Department Chairperson or Program Director. TCA215 3 credits 3 periods Evidence for the Tribal Court Advocate Examination of the most commonly encountered evidentiary issues encountered by advocates in the tribal courts. Evidentiary foundations, exclusion of witnesses, recognition of hearsay, admissibility of character and prior acts evidence, privileged communications; authentication. Prerequisites: TCA101. TCA225 3 credits 3 periods Legal Writing for the Tribal Court Advocate Development of practical and analytical skills used in basic legal research. Culminates in writing a legal memorandum. Prerequisites: (ENG101 and TCA211), or permission of Department Chairperson or Program Director. TCA298AB 2 credits 2 periods Special Projects Organized and tailored around the interests and needs of the individual student. Structured to provide an atmosphere of individualized research and study paralleled by professional expertise and guidance. Professional-type facilities and equipment available for student use. Allows the best aspects of independent study and individualized learning to be combined to maximize student development. Prerequisites: Permission of Program Director or Instructor. WELLNESS EDUCATION WED HPERD Division PE 149 480.423.6606 WED162 1 credit 1 period Meditation and Wellness Physiology of meditation and its effects on physical and mental health; scholastic abilities and interpersonal relationships; differentiation between meditation and other relaxation techniques. Prerequisites: None. WED165 2 credits 2 periods Overview of Massage Therapy History of massage; overview of bodywork systems; benefits and indications of massage; legal requirements for practice in Arizona. Prerequisites: None. WED172 1 credit 1 period Overview of Herbal Remedies History and evolution of herbs for healing applications. Preparation, usage, and effects of certain herbs used for healing purposes. Basic literature review skills in the area of herbal medicine. Prerequisites: None. (WED172 is not offered every semester.) WED181 1 credit 1 period Essential Oil Properties and Formulations Focuses on the benefits of individual plant oils, profiling past to present day uses and documented properties; experiential evaluation of the oils; how to formulate topical blends; oil substitution using less expensive oils; hands-on learning. Prerequisites: None. (WED181 is not offered every semester.) WED183 2 credits 2 periods Introduction to Ayurvedic Principles Introduction to Ayurveda: "the science of life"; a complete system of balancing the body, mind and spirit, originating from ancient India. Introduction to foundational Ayurvedic principles, health philosophy and self assessment of basic constitution. Application of basic health and self care practices such as food selection and preparation, exercise and movement, renewal and restoration activities, environmental influences to promote health and well- being. Prerequisites: None. Course Notes: WED183 may be repeated for a total of six (6) credits. (WED183 is not offered every semester.)
