raising funds for track construction. Architect
Wallace Holm worked with crews from Granite
Construction Company to outline and con-
struct the original course, and locals supported
the project with $1.5 million in contributions.
"Many cities have a baseball or football stadi-
um. Monterey County has Mazda Raceway
Laguna Seca, and it's owned by the people,"
Campbell says.
Laguna Seca property was turned over to
Monterey County in 1974, and SCRAMP con-
tinues to oversee track operations. The organi-
zation is celebrating 60 years of racing through-
