"But really just to try to instill the message that…How you treat people really lasts longer than anything you can accomplish on the court." run just over $400 and some include a $120 ticket credit to a Warriors game. "We have unique resources," Addiego says. "We hope that the children get the same engagement with bas- ketball that we have." When asked what the most rewarding thing is about being with the young players, Shaun Livingston smiles. "Just the interaction with the kids," he says. "Seeing them light up when they see you. You don't have to say a word. They just see you and automatically their eyes just go huge." Zaza Pachulia, whose two young sons are also campers, concurs. "The first moment when the [kids] saw Shaun and myself, they got so excited," he says. "The emotions and reactions they have after taking a picture and shaking our hand and seeing us live…It's just such a great moment to interact with each other," he says. "After this season, everyone is happy with the results so there are a lot of smiling faces. It's a priceless moment." At camp, the children line up for a precisely organized group photo and a cheer with their heroes. Some come from as far away as Turkey, China and Germany. On a video posted on the Warriors website, Livingston visits campers in their dorms and even talks to one kid's mom on the phone. It's refreshing to see the players without their game faces on, smiling patiently with each child. More than 40,000 kids have enjoyed Warriors camps in the Bay Area, Santa Cruz, and Monterey County over the past 17 years. 282 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • S U M M E R / F A L L 2 0 1 7
