RETAILOBSERVER.COM SEPTEMBER 2017 30 W e have all heard the saying, when one door closes, another one opens. This saying could be used to describe recent events at GE Appliances (GEA). Chip Blankenship, former president & CEO of GE Appliances, a Haier company, decided it was time to close the chapter on his last six years at GEA and move onto a new chapter in his life and career. Chip has been a terrific leader for GE Appliances and set a foundation upon which we will continue to build. We were fortunate to have worked with him and wish him the best. The door that has opened is a new organizational structure called the Executive Council. It creates a decision-making leadership team that will optimize the whole business and accelerate our progress, particularly in the areas of technological innovation, operational excellence, new categories and build closer connections and WOW experiences with customers and owners. The new leadership model was created purposely with the goals of breaking down silos, bringing different perspectives, boosting collaboration and increasing focus and resources on the consumer. We believe this new approach will help us create an environment where bold, breakthrough ideas become reality faster, deliver great products and services, and help develop aggressive growth for GEA and our customers. Everything we do is to better serve our valued customers, loyal owners and future owners. So, without farther ado, meet GEA's Executive Council: Kevin Nolan is president and CEO for GE Appliances. Kevin's 27 years at GEA ensures continuity and commitment to success during this transition. His depths in technology and product development combined with his strong relationship with Haier are a testament to our passion for bringing you and our owner's great product. Additionally, Melanie Cook, a long-time GE veteran, is chief operating officer (COO). Melanie's 22 years of experience and ability to improve processes and deliver performance enhancing results will be a great asset for our team. Rick Hasselbeck, an experienced marketing leader, is chief commercial officer (CCO). Rick recently came to GE Appliances from Procter & Gamble, where he led several brands. He brings fresh perspective on how we bring our products to life through investment in brand and advertising. We have seen great success having marketing and sales as one combined organization in the past, and returning to this structure will ensure that our customers are the focus of our organization. The three positions together, CEO, CCO and COO, are designed to make sure that product, customers and world class operations collectively continue to be the focus of our company. Our customers remain our #1 priority. We have been through a lot together over the years and I believe the next few years will be transformational for our industry. With our new leadership team in place, and our sales organization intact, I believe we are positioned well to capitalize on new growth. Our customers should continue to have confidence that when they partner with GE Appliances, we will work every day to serve them well. We thank them for their ongoing support.
