The area is also renowned for its beautiful
vineyards near Pokolbin, a two-hour drive
from Sydney. Most of the major wineries
have a cellar door for tastings and a restau-
rant on site, and it's worthwhile including
a few stops in the itinerary. Some of the
more famous Hunter Valley vineyards in-
clude Brokenwood - known for its Cricket
Pitch red blend; Krinklewood – the biody-
namic winery makes a cracker of a rosé; and
Peppertree - enjoy a delicious dinner at the
