ARTICLE PROVIDED BY BANIK COMMUNICATIONS PLANTING SEEDS OF SUCCESS Drive across the Big Sky in the summer and you'll see fields upon fields of various crops—from wheat and barley to canola and peas. Each crop is the result of thoughtful planning, hundreds of hours of labor, and diligent care from a Montana farmer. Along with the seed, they've planted a lot of hope for a good harvest in the coming year—every growing decision farmers make affects that outcome. One of the most critical decisions producers have to make is the seed they plant. When it comes to selecting seed, Montana farmers have choices. One such choice is the decision to use bin-run seed or certified seed. Certified seed is field-inspected, genetically pure seed that's free of contaminants, true to the variety, proven viable, has known quality and has been cleaned in certified facilities.
