Hockey Math Take the number of Olympic gold medals won by the U.S. Women's Team and add it to the number of times women's hockey has been an Olympic sport. Then multiply that by the number of Olympic gold medals won by the U.S. Men's Team. What do you get? CORRECTION Our math was a little off in the September issue, but not nearly as bad as our geography. We asked, "Take the number of original NHL teams and add the number of expansion teams that joined the NHL in 2000-01. Then divide that number by the teams that play in New York. What do you get?" The number of original NHL teams is six (duh!), and the number of expansion teams added in 2000-01 was two. Here's where we messed up: everybody knows there are three NHL teams based out of New York (the Rangers, Islanders and Sabres), and we said there are two. So the correct equation should be 6 + 2 Ð by 3 = 2.66. We apologize for the error and plan on taking a course in remedial math, and geography. AN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE GOAL BY GORDON STICKLER!!! The U.S. Men have won the gold twice (1960 and 1980). So, 1+ 4 = 5 x 2 = 10. CAPTION NEXT ENTER YOUR MONTH
