A M E S S A G E T O As I reflect on the last year, my thoughts gravitate toward my colleagues. I admire the compassion and commitment our physicians, nurses and employees have for our patients. SIH has changed, a lot in fact, over the last decade alone. We evolved from a three-hospital organization into a sophisticated regional health system, which today includes a comprehensive cancer center and a group of family practice providers and specialists spanning the southern third of the state. rough this evolution, the steadfast strength of the people of SIH – 3,700 individuals strong – paved the way for accredited, nationally recognized care in cardiac, cancer, stroke, orthopedic and rehabilitation services, to name just a few. A concerted effort to extend this advanced level of care beyond our hospital walls is seen via a successful telestroke network, which puts an SIH Brain & Spine Institute neurologist at the patient bedside in seven rural counties for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke. at same spirit of caring is exemplified in the many collaborations led by our Community Benefits department; partnerships with groups like Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation help our most vulnerable patients overcome health crises that could otherwise render them homeless or financially devastated. Speaking of collaborations, a perfect example of our relationship with the BJC Collaborative in St. Louis is shared in a remarkable story of resilience and recovery involving a pilot critically injured in a small plane crash. We're pleased to offer award-winning, accredited care, provided by your friends, neighbors and family. You'll find no greater example of this type of servant leadership than among the people of SIH. Sincerely, Rex Budde President & CEO "I A DMIRE T HE COMPASSION AND COMMITMENT OUR PHYSICIANS, NURSES AND EMPLOYEES HAVE FOR OUR PATIENTS." Our Community 2 | ANNUAL REPORT 2017
