What do we want our students to take out of our classes? The present
continuous and a topical lexical set? The ability to navigate a tricky
conversation in English? A useful structure for planning essays?
The answer, of course, is 'All of these things'. But is that enough? What if
we could get them leaving our classrooms with a sense of wonder and
excitement, having learnt something they never knew about the world
and the people in it, having been inspired to find out more.
The world we live in is a challenging place and we should be trying to
equip our students with the tools they need to navigate, appreciate and
enjoy the journey.
